A paediatric primary care provider is a primary care provider that specializes their practice in paediatrics.

Our paediatric primary care providers include paediatric nurse practitioners, who are registered nurses with an NP certification in paediatrics (specializing only in children 0-17) or primary care. With experience focused in paediatrics and family medicine, they have a high-level of comfort and knowledge in best paediatrics practices.

All paediatric nurse practitioners on Maple are highly experienced and dedicated to providing the right care for their young patients. They can help with many health needs, including, but not limited to:

  • Acute symptoms like fever, nausea and vomiting, diarrhea or constipation, runny nose, coughing and croup.
  • Mental health concerns such as anxiety and depression.

To find out if an online paediatric nurse practitioner can help your child, book a consultation on Maple. If your request is not suitable for online diagnosis and treatment, the paediatric nurse practitioner will let you know, and you won't be charged.

The biggest difference between a paediatric nurse practitioner and a family doctor is that paediatric nurse practitioners specialize in child and youth health, whereas family doctors see patients of all ages. Paediatric nurse practitioners spend most of their time treating children, while family doctors only spend limited time treating children.

When you’re uncertain between seeing a family doctor or a paediatric nurse practitioner, assess if your child’s concern is minor and can be addressed by a family doctor, or if you require more guidance, education and next steps from a specialized paediatric professional.
