Can you tell us more about your medical background and education?
I was a practising pharmacist for a number of years. I then went on to complete my training in functional medicine. I studied at the Institute for Functional Medicine, and am trained by Dr. Dale Bresden to assist patients with cognitive decline.
I’m certified by Green Shield of Canada for cardiovascular health coaching and chronic disease management. With functional medicine I enjoy helping patients get to the root cause of their health issues.
What inspired you to learn and teach patients about functional medicine?
My perspective as a pharmacist led me to functional medicine. Everyday I saw patients becoming increasingly unwell, despite having their symptoms treated with medication. I found my calling to help patients get to the root of their health issues, and ultimately create a healthier society.
What do you love the most about being a healthcare provider?
I love helping patients feel their best. This could come from treating hormonal issues, gut health, cognitive health, fatigue, and other imbalances. I can empower patients through education.
What’s your favourite part about practising on Maple?
I’m taking part in the future of medicine. Virtual care provides me with the opportunity to collaborate with an expanding team of the best healthcare providers. What’s the most challenging aspect of working in the medical field?
The way the universal healthcare system is set up doesn’t allow for enough proactive and preventative healthcare. There’s a lack of public education about preventative health, and how nutrition and lifestyle both play important roles.
Can you share a health-hack that has made your life better?
I have come to learn that sleep is vastly underrated. Your body regenerates during the first few hours of your regular sleep cycle. In many cases, a healthy circadian rhythm can restore wellness. Even symptoms of gut and cognitive issues can be assisted after a full restful sleep cycle.
What do you do in your spare time?
I love being in nature. It’s a great way to stay balanced and have some downtime.
